In Assam, a Next of Kin Certificate, also known as a Legal Heir Certificate, is a crucial document issued by the district administration that establishes the legal relationship between a deceased person and their heirs, especially when a will is absent, and is essential for claiming benefits like mutation (naamzaari in assam) inheritance, pension, and provident fund in Assam.
How to apply for next of Kin Certificate
You can apply for the next of kin certificate online through the state service delivery portal, Public Felicitation Centers at the DC Office, SDO Office, or Revenue Circle Office, or through Common Service Centers, You can also apply online through the Assam e-District portal or Assam Sewa Setu portal.
Follow the below steps to register on the Sewa Setu portal.
- Visit Sewa Setu portal.
- Click on LOGIN/REGISTER.
- Stipulated Time Limit : Within 15 Days
Fees Required for Next of Kin Certificate in Guwahati - Fees :Statutory charges: NIL
- Service charge (through PFC/CSC) – Rs. 30
- Printing charge (in case of any printing from PFC/CSC) – Rs. 10 per page
- Scanning charge (in case documents are scanned in PFC/CSC) – Rs. 5 per page
- Convenience fee- Rs. 10/
Required Documents For Next of Kin Certificate in Assam
- Scan copy of application form.
- Death Certificate of the deceased person.
- Valid documents showing relationship with the deceased person.(e.g. Voter ID, PAN, Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate etc.) [Mandatory]

Draft of the Affidavit should contain the date of death of the deceased person, place of death , name of the legal heir along with their address and age.
